What We Treat
Here at Barrhaven Psychological Services, our clinicians are trained to work with a variety of presenting difficulties and disorders. Please see below for some examples of topics that are frequently addressed in sessions.
Adult ADHD
Some 2.5% of adults struggle with severe difficulties with concentration, organization, and staying on task – many of whom were never identified or treated as children. We can provide you with a cost-effective assessment to determine if those difficulties are, in fact, ADHD.
And, whether you are in need of a diagnosis or have already been diagnosed, we can also help you develop a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. There are a variety of skills and strategies that can be used, either on their own or in combination with medication from your physician, that can help you feel better and do better at work. We can also help you complete the process of requesting accommodations for your employer.

ADHD
Creating a treatment plan for a child with ADHD requires a comprehensive approach involving various strategies and interventions. It's essential to involve the child's guardians, teachers, and healthcare professionals to ensure a well-rounded plan. A comprehensive plan can often include a child and parent therapy, psychoeducation, school support, modifying the environment at home and school and learning strategies to manage one's symptoms. Remember that every child with ADHD is unique, and their treatment plan should be tailored to their individual needs and strengths. Patience, understanding, and consistent support are essential in helping a child with ADHD thrive and reach their full potential.
Anxiety
Anxiety is a natural and common emotional response that arises when we face uncertain or challenging situations. It's like our body's alert system, getting us ready to deal with things that might be a bit tough. However, when anxiety becomes overwhelming or starts popping up even when there's no real danger, it can become a challenge. The good news is, there are strategies and support available to manage anxiety and help individuals lead more comfortable and fulfilling lives In therapy, clinicians employ proven techniques to address anxiety in a thoughtful and structured manner. Through conversations, they help individuals better understand their anxiety triggers and patterns. Our clinicians introduce effective strategies, such as deep breathing exercises, mindfulness techniques, and gradual exposure to anxiety-provoking situations. They work collaboratively to reshape negative thought patterns and replace them with healthier perspectives. By tailoring treatment plans to each person's unique needs, clinicians create a supportive environment for learning and practicing new skills that empower individuals to manage their anxiety and regain a sense of control over their lives.
Grief

Academic Coaching
Many students finish high school, and start College and university, not having developed the academic skills, strategies and habits that are needed to succeed school and realize their full potential. We can develop an approach that blends both academic skills alongside social and emotional coping skills to assist young people in getting the most out of school both in terms of enjoyment and academic success. In six weeks, we can get you started on learning a number of life-changing skills that will benefit students during their school years as well as throughout their life. Academic skills include goal setting, storyboarding and strategies to foster active recall to name a few, as well as emotional coping skills, including relaxation breathing and mindfulness, fact checking, and knowing how and when to talk to teachers and ask for help.
